Types Of InjuriesSpecific InjuryThis is the most common type of injury. This would include burns, cuts and broken bones that happen while at work. Cumulative TraumaThis is the type of injury that results from doing the same job for a long period. The best known of these is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, where the hands or wrists are damaged by assembly line work or typing. Back problems, neck injuries and hearing loss can also be the result of cumulative trauma. Occupational DiseaseThis can result from extended exposure to dangerous chemicals or a hazardous work environment. Aggravation of Pre-Existing ConditionIf you had some health issues before you started working that were made worse because of the job you may be entitled to compensation. For example, if you had a history of back trouble but then injured your back at work, you may be entitled to coverage. Off Work SiteIn some instances, a person may be entitled to workers' compensation benefits even if the injury did not occur while at the work site. For example, if the injury occurred in the company parking lot on the way to or from work, it may be considered a work injury. A heart attack or stroke which is due to work stress may be a work injury even if the heart attack or stroke occurs at home. |
